Preston plays cards with his grandmother Sunday, and she tells him about an old murder trial in Shermantown, where an innocent man went to prison, captivating Preston 's father's interest, and turning him on to a career in law. Preston joins his father to meet with Darryl Goodman at the jail Monday. Preston talks with Teri on the phone Tuesday night, talking about the case and plans for Teri to come to town in a couple week. Darryl's daughter, Valerie, visits the office Wednesday. Preston hasn't seen her since childhood, and she's grown into a beautiful woman. Thursday, Preston joins his father for a lunch meeting with Valerie, where she alludes to her parents arguing in the days leading up to the murder. Preston and talks to his father Friday, as he prepares for the pre-trial, and tells Preston about how Darryl is adamant about clearing his name. Saturday, Preston and his father meet with Valerie, and her boyfriend Adam, to talk about the plans for the pre-trial, which Adam doesn't seem to understand—insisting that they should be more aggressive at this stage of the trial.
